Today I am delighted to welcome the fabulous Kathryn Cartwright to the show. Kathryn is a writer, editor, auditor, and author passionate about helping people find their writing voice and unleash their creativity. Listen in on how to create the best environment to find your creativity in whichever form that may be and the empowering and healing effects of letting it flow!
I help authors, speakers and coaches polish their stories for publication using my intuitive editing gifts in the form of developmental content editing, with a splash of copy editing and proofreading at the end.
This has been my calling since I was about 4 years old; somewhere there is an audio tape of me telling my grandmother exactly how Walt Disney could have fixed the Snow White story to make it a better story than what he had.
I earned a degree in Professional Writing, worked for a literary agency, and then took a hiatus from book editing as the publishing industry 25 years ago was focused solely on how marketable a book was and made everything an author had to say bland. I edited in other areas for the last 20 years. Then as I looked at children growing and not needing me as much, as well as part of my healing from a rather nasty divorce experience, I realized it was time to step back into helping authors polish their books again as the self-publishing industry has risen to the heights it has.
In 2018, I was also challenged by Lifebook co-founder, Missy Butcher, to step out of my own comfort zone and become an author. Talk about something that I hadn’t considered at any point. I like being the support for those who are stepping into the light and stepping into my own light was a huge step. However, in 2019, I found two anthologies to write in – both became Amazon best-sellers; in 2020, I wrote in two more anthologies (which also became Amazon best-sellers); in 2021 – I wrote in one anthology and started to produce a fictional anthology; and this year, I am submitting in two anthologies, at least, as well as finished the fictional anthology and creating a non-fiction anthology or two.
Since I believe that being scared about writing and sharing a message in writing stops so many people, I enjoy helping people find their writing voice before they even consider my help in editing. It is so easy to relax into writing once you know how. That doesn’t mean that you always make easy time for it, but the more comfortable you can relax into your creative flow, the more you can do and be the person you are meant to be.
