Today we have a force of nature on the show, 60-year-old personal trainer Jess Hills, a woman who despite many health challenges is probably one of the fittest women I know and who firmly believes that fitness is for everyone and that we deserve to make it a priority, whatever our age or physical condition and that is can and should be fun!

BIO
Jess Hills, Personal Trainer , Bachelor of Human Kinetics, University of British Columbia, Canada (UBC), Certified in Sport and Health Nutrition

Fitness has been a lifestyle for me since my childhood in Victoria on Canada’s west coast.  In his spare time, my stepfather trained a professional lacrosse team and this influenced my early active participation in various All star sport teams.  I studied Human Kinetics at UBC and went on to become a Physical Education teacher, which I did for many years.   I also joined the so-called “Fit City” team, mandated to test the fitness levels of organisations such as the Vancouver Police Department and the S.W.A.T. Team.
This combined career experience ultimately lead me to a career in personal training, which allowed me to help people from all walks of life achieve their individual Fitness goals.

My personal philosophy is a firm belief that Fitness should and can be fun while remaining a serious and precise endeavour with respect to specific training needs.   Fitness is for everyone, no matter what challenges each individual may face.  Of course, there may be exceptions but in general, even if you are struggling with injury, or a condition, there will be an appropriate training programme for you to reach your individual goals. I know this, because I myself am living proof that fitness is possible despite having to face a fairly broad range of physical issues-from multiple injuries enjoying extreme sports, from asthma to arthritis, from a heart problem to multiple allergies.

I live and work in The Hague, where in addition to training for MTB Biking and Fitness & Fun, I have worked as a Personal Trainer for the Staff Union Gym at the International Criminal Court, I also run a Private Fitness Studio in The Hague.  My experience and range of training programme activities runs the gamut of sport and fitness objectives for clients – from personal well-being or weight goals to professional bodybuilding; and includes weight/strength training, Kettlebells, Functional Training, Circuit Weight training, Cross-fit Training, Core training, Boxing and TRX Training as well as posture assessment and correction through muscle strength training.

My personal and community activities include Strength training, playing and endorsing Pickleball Den Haag, MTB biking in the forest trails all over the Netherlands and abroad and I have recently started studying and practicing Aikido.
